Christmas is about a revealing

The glory of Christmas is that God revealed Himself to mankind in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ. The holy, infinte YHWH of the Old Testament scriptures Who refused to let His people see Him, but only to hear His voice (Deut. 5:22-23), and indeed was infuriated when they attempted to give Him a visible manifestation in the golden calf (Deut. 4:15-19, 9:13-29), had good reason to leave mankind in the dark about the intricacies of His person. The good news for us is that He hasn’t. God put on a body in the person of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and on one holy night (which wasn’t very silent if you consider the multitudes of Heavenly hosts praising God), He chose to make Himself fully known to this sinful world. That Baby born in a manger was the Holy One of Israel that controlled the rise and fall of every governing authority in existence, spoke into the void and created all things, and was humbly revered as the One who fought for His people Israel, leading them out of slavery in Egypt to the promised land (Jn. 1:1, 12:41). Their promised Messiah was in fact their own God.
Friend, if you want to know God, look to Jesus. Jesus said Himself, “Whoever has seen Me, has seen the Father” (Jn. 14:8-9). What glorious news for us! Jesus is “The image of the invisible God” and in Jesus “…all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell” (Col. 1:15-23). John, the beloved disciple said of Him, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth” and “No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, He has made Him known.” The author of Hebrews says of Jesus, “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature” (1:3a). Please do not think that Jesus’ birth was the beginning of His person, but rather know that He had no beginning (Jn. 1:1, Ps. 90:2, Heb. 1:1-4). So what does this mean for us, that God has chosen to reveal Himself to mankind in the person of Jesus Christ? It means God is not impersonal like the Allah of Islam; it means that there is a Mediator between holy God and sinful men; it means that in Christ we have a clear representation of God’s unfathomably great love for sinners; and it also means that we now have no excuse on Judgment Day for a lack of knowledge.
Get to know God today by studying the immaculate virgin birth, sinless and righteous life, substitutionary death on the cross, triumphant resurrection from the grave, glorious ascension to the right hand of the Father, current intercession for believers, and coming judgment and reign of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. And don’t just see Christ, savor Him!
